Communion Prayers for the Sixth Sunday after Pentecost

For the Loaf

O God, we your people come around this table laden with the blessing of your inheritance to us.  This loaf which represents the body of Jesus broken on the cross becomes the flesh of our renewed spirit as we partake.

We have labored long for the riches we possess, but they pale in the presence of the living bread of which we now partake.

We confess that we have set our priorities on earthly things.  We have committed too much of our lives to gaining worldly possessions.  We feed ourselves with rich foods and fine clothes, yet we still hunger, and shiver in the cold of our spiritual nakedness.

We have been taught your ways.  As we take this broken bread, may it become in us your flesh made whole in our actions and deeds.

 Amen.

For the Wine

In this cup, O God, we find an inheritance of new life.  It is a life of promise and new found blessings.  As we drink the wine-become-blood of Christ, let us be filled with the Spirit of love and caring.  We recognize, with only a little understanding, what Jesus sacrificed so that we might inherit your gift of eternal life.

We renew our commitment to a life centered on your love and grace.  With this new life given us, let us reach out in love and compassion to serve your world.

 Amen.
