Communion Prayers for the Eighth Sunday after Pentecost

Based upon John 6:15-21

The Loaf

Gracious Lord, you have given us so much.  We are overwhelmed by you forgiving nature.  To have left us with such a legacy of love after what humanity has done to you is beyond our ability to understand.  As we are about to take of this bread emblematic of your body broken by the hands of humanity, we are filled and nourished with your healing.  It will make us whole again.  In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.

 The Wine

OGod, how can we approach this table in our unworthy state?  We are taught by Jesus that it is your forgiveness and love that allow us here.  How miraculous is the life giving blood shed by your Son Jesus Christ represented here by the wine we are to drink!  We humbly drink of this sustaining fluid to give us a new life in you.  This we pray in Jesus’ name, amen.
