What Do You Think?

Hi:
This is a blog for the individual that is interested in philosophical and theological issues.

This is a place where individuals may express their ideas and concepts. These can be on almost any subject. Eventually, if this site gets really active, I may subdivide the blog into subject areas, however, for now, everything will be mixed together.

If the dialogue gets bogged down, I will try to interject a subject or thought that would hopefully stimulate conversation.

Basically, anything goes. Just keep the language clean and stay away from comments that might be considered as racially, culturally, or sexually exploitive. This is a place for discussion and dialogue – not hate.

    Good Morning,

As you have been thinking about trust, I have been thinking about “the full armor of God,” as outlined by Paul in his letter we know as Ephesians. In chapter 6, we read about living righteously, faith, salvation, the gospel of peace, the Word of God, and truth; then Paul outlines some of his thoughts, for us, about prayer.

As I continue to thinkg about Paul’s list, it seems living this way and thinking about this list, our trust in God will grow and increase.

Thanks for your efforts, Lem–Godspeed in this new effort.

    Thanks, Alan, for your comments.
When one thinks of ‘armor’ as defense and protection from harm, then the values that the Apostle Paul refers to in his letter to the Ephesians are quite applicable to the theme. I believe trustworthiness is essential to a successful society. Interaction and cooperation are not possible unless members of society can rely upon each other. The Apostle Paul sees this as a faith issue. He sees the beginning point of our relationship to God and thus to each other as place our trust in God justice and love.
If you are interested I will give you a web site where a more exhaustive discussion on the theme of trust in God.

I love Ephesians Chapter 6. I actually view it as an offense. As a former basketball player, I learned that the best defense is a great offense. If I have the armor of God on, that appears to be a defense. The offensive part of the “play” is for all of us to put the armor on, link arms and we stand firm to the enemy. If one of us becomes weak, our arms are still linked and the armor is still in place, the “play” still continues.

The “play” is internal to our relationships with one another as Christians as we lift one another up in prayer, support one another in our journey by accepting one another where we are where we are at and loving each other in that place, and learning the love of God through that.

The external part of the “play” (what is seen from the outside looking in), is the light of Christ shedding His Light to magnify the darkness outside of the armor so that those who are lost, may want what we have and come to know God as a result. This means renouncing worldly ideas that come our way, knowing we will be tempted but choose not to sin.

I love it when Jesus was challenged about who He was when He claimed to be God. He only responded with “I am.” There is no real offense or defense to that. He is what “IS.” So, if we know who we are IN Christ, and we have Christ IN us, may we also say, “I am” when challenged?

I don’t think we have to “say” anything really. If we do what we are supposed to do by being obedient to Christ, then are we not going to be making room for more of that Light to shine through us? The more light, the more “I am” of Jesus others see, the more love there is.

Oh my, I know I am just a simple girl, with a simple faith, and simply want to love the way God would want us to do it.

Blessings to your new venture here. It’s awesome! Cathy

        Thanks for your contribution.

Please feel free to continue to contribute to the site. I will post an article about once per week. Also, I hope more will contribute their ideas.

I am reflecting on your words. It does seem that armor seems somewhat defensive in nature. In my article I call for trustworthy persons to be proactive by getting in contact with others who are involved in our communities. To me that is the way we can not only improve our society, but also convey our Christian values.
