Morning Prayer for the Sixth Sunday after Pentecost

O God, our creator, we are the grateful heirs of your kingdom.  We sing of your great gifts of love and grace which have been given us through your Son, Jesus Christ.  We bask in the light of the Holy Spirit which comes to us through your Son.

We humbly recognize the inheritance we receive.  It is not gained by our own striving to be good but rather from your forgiveness.

We confess our sins of greed and hate, our bigotry and lust.  O Lord, we lie, we covet, we steal, we murder, we call out your name in vain, we ignore your Sabbath day and we bow down to the idols of materialism.

We confess because we know you will listen to us.  You have promised to hear our cries of despair and grief.  You have offered to lift us up out of our base existence to a renewed station of righteousness.

Renew in us a commitment to be your servants among those with whom we live.  Open our eyes that we might see the plight of those around us.  Give us wisdom to respond to the needs of your people.

This we pray in the name or your Son, Jesus Christ, who died that we might live.  Amen.
