Morning Prayer for the Eighth Sunday after Pentecost

Based upon John 6:15-21

God of wonder and majesty, we witness your Son walking on the water during a storm.  We are at ones amazed and awed by his power.

We thank you for the beautiful planet upon which we live.  As we see the photographs of the earth from the moon, we see at once how vulnerable and how blessed we are.

We see the bright blue and white ball floating in the vast and dark space and we wonder at its remoteness.  We see the warmth of its colors that contrast with the dark and wonder at its beauty.  We then know that we are truly blessed.

We thank you for the sustenance of food, warmth, and light that you provide to life in all its forms.

We thank you for the magnificence of the mountains and oceans and beautiful night skies full of stars.

We thank you for humanity and for creating each of us in your image.  For each one, a unique individual from the bubbling youth to the quiet and wise aged, we are grateful.

But, most of all, we thank you for Jesus whose life is like a guiding star that leads through the paths of danger and death.  Amen.
