Morning Prayer for Eleventh Sunday after Pentecost B 2009

Based upon Based upon Ephesians 5:15-20

O Lord, sometimes, we are left with an empty feeling in our lives.  Often, we attempt to fill that emptiness with food, or material things.  Many of us find ourselves searching for meaning in life and not finding it.  Help us to look in the right places.

We are caught up in a selfish world where acquiring possessions seems to be the prevalent way to self fulfillment.  But these things, even if they hold our interest, soon wear out or break.  We get bored and begin to develop an indifference to everything.  We become bitter and frustrated when the shiny becomes tarnished, and the promising becomes disappointing.

Renew our vision of a world of accomplishment by guiding us to more valiant endeavors.   Direct us to value the uplifting feeling one gets from helping the sick find health, and the destitute to find relief.  Help us to learn to be fed from the smile on the face of a grieving person.

Give us hope for a better life giving life through the saving grace of Jesus.  Amen.
