Communion Prayers for the Tenth Sunday after Pentecost B 2009

Based upon Ephesians 4:25 – 5:2

The Loaf

Dear Lord, when we reflect upon Jesus’ perfect life, it makes even more aware of our shortcomings and our sins.  When we have angry feelings, help us to bring to you.  When we are frustrated as the result of seeming futile struggles to get ahead in our lives, help us to confess those to you.  The gift of your son Jesus Christ on the Cross, and the bread we take that reminds us of his body broken for us, sustains and lifts us up from depression and the darkness of sin.  We are thankful.  We are grateful.  Amen.

The Wine

Oh Lord, we read of blood spilled every day.  There is death as result of war, theft, domestic arguments, and disagreements both severe and trivial.  When will it stop?  Even your Son’s blood spilled on the Cross is the result of human sin and misplaced fear and anger.   We come to your perfect love from an imperfect world looking for refuge and rest.  Bless us as we partake of these emblems and make us better for it.  Amen.
