Communion Meditation for Pentecost 14B 2009

Based upon James 2:1-17

In I Corinthians 11, just before the passage I read every Sunday as instructions to taking communion, the Apostle Paul admonishes the members of the Corinthian church for not sharing together the food that they would bring to their Agape meals.  He said that some would bring lavish portions and eat them in front of those who could not afford to bring hardly any.  Obviously, equality is a value that should be practiced by Christians in every aspect of their lives.  As we prepare ourselves to share in this the Lord’s Supper, let us renew our resolve to practice providing equal love and support to all our brothers and sisters in Christ no matter their station in this life.
