Based upon James 3:1-12

Leader:  We hear your Word and it fills our hearts and souls with new energy and spirit. 

People:  We speak your Word, and it is carried by your Holy Spirit to the world and to all who have ears to hear.

Leader:  We hear words of derision and despair from those who lack faith and insight into your bounteous Grace.

People:  We speak words of hate and destruction and all within hearing range wither in the dark dread of them.

Leader:  You tell us not to use your name in vain or anything you have made in vain.

People:  We curse the ground we stand upon, and all else that God holds holy.  The words fall upon the fearful, and they run from the dread of violence.

Leader:  Lord help us we pray!!

Unison: Dear God, with your grace hear our cries from filthy mouths.  We need your cleansing Spirit to wash away the darkness in our minds.  We need you quenching fire of your Spirit to burn the filth from our tongues.  Lift us up out of the quagmire of disgust into the purity of your heart.  Make us worthy to speak the words of the prayer Jesus taught us.  Our Father…
