On this day, we recognize the inheritance we have received from God through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the Cross.
We confess that we have set our priorities on earthly things. We have committed to much of our lives to gaining worldly possessions. We feed ourselves with rich foods and fine clothes, yet we still hunger, and shiver in the cold of our spiritual nakedness.
We humbly recognize the inheritance we receive is not gained by our own striving to be good, but rather from your forgiveness.
With gratitude, Lord, we come to receive the blessing you have promised. We renew a commitment to your service and a renewal of will and purpose. We will strive to be worthy of the wonderful grace and blessing we receive from you. To this endeavor, we join in the prayer taught to us by Jesus.
You have taught us there is a life where those elements, of greed and hate which are so destructive, do not exist. You have given us glimpses of hope where we in our imperfection can find our way to an existence where the awful death and illness does not exist.
