Based upon James 3:1-12
O Lord God. We are so fortunate to have been given the words of the Bible to guide us to what is holy. We bask in the beauty of the life that is defined there. The wisdom shown by the prophets and the teachings of Jesus and his apostles is like sweet fruit on the tree. There for us to pick and eat.
Yet, we are never far from the evil one. We fail to watch what we say. We say things we wish we could take back. We use words that destroy and hurt others. Our anger, frustration or hate is expressed in inappropriate ways.
Give us a new way of looking at your creation and what is in it. Help us to see what is good and wholesome. Fill our minds with the beauty of the world rather than the evil. Then, Lord, give us a sense of caution so we can carefully craft our words to build up ourselves and others.
Give us words worthy of your praise that we may fill your universe with the light of your glory.
These things we pray in the name of Jesus our Savior. Amen.
