Responsive Call to Worship & Invocation for the Eleventh Sunday after Pentecost B 2009

Based upon Ephesians 5:15-20

Leader:  Why have you come here today?

People:  We want to be satisfied with our lives. We come to be fed with food from God.

Leader:  This food you want, is it for pleasure or need?

People:  We do not know.  We just want to feel good.

Leader:  The bread of life is not for pleasure seekers.  Pleasure only seeks more pleasure.

People:  But what is life without pleasure?

Leader:  It is fulfillment you seek, not pleasure.  It will satisfy.

People: How do we get this fulfillment?

Leader:  Pray to God.  Pray with me.

Unison:  Lord God, we seek to fill needs within us that earthly pleasures cannot satisfy.  Give us the wisdom to know the Bread of Life when we see it.  Fulfill us with your love and mercy.  This we pray as Jesus taught us.  Our Father…
